Bunnies and Duckies and Bears – Oh My!

The North Coast Men’s Chorus participated in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony April 17th of Providence House’s Prentiss Wellness Nursery. This Wellness Nursery is safe place for children in crisis with medical needs and forms of developmental disabilities, whose parents maybe struggling to cope with their children’s medical care, possibly challenged with homeless or unsafe living conditions.  Providence House spoke to their appreciation, support and donation.

The pictures reflect what a wonderful gift we gave these children in crisis with medical needs. The goal of the Wellness Center is to provide needed services to at least 100 children within the first year of opening.  The North Coast Men’s Chorus presented these children with 100 stuffed animals to help them feel more comfortable and to provide them something to hold on to that will stay with them through their time in the Center.

The ceremony was hosted by Natalie Leek-Nelson and her staff, the Board represented by Duane Bishop, Jr., Board Chair and Vice President and COO of Forest City Enterprises. Sister Hope Greener, C.S.J. Providence House Founder, did the Opening Prayer and there were many members of the community present. Some of the speakers at the ceremony were Armond Budish, Cuyahoga County Executive, Joe Cimperman, Ward 3 City Councilman. The closing of the ceremony with the ribbon cutting was with a blessing for the Wellness Nursery by Pastor Allen Harris, Franklin Circle Church who spoke of the children and what a blessing it was to serve our community in the care of these children.

NCMC will continue to support Providence House as we have in the past with “Deck the House” and in some of the Mardi Gras events raising funds to support their Mission. In the future the Chorus hopes to support an outdoor clean up and landscaping day.

NCMC Joins L’Arche Cleveland on their CD

If you are looking for a great cause to support, look no further than L’Arche Cleveland and their “very Cleveland” holiday fundraiser. The organization is collaborating with Cleveland State University Music Therapy students, as well as community and school choral groups from throughout Cleveland to create a holiday CD. Performers include the Gesu Children’s Choir, the North Coast Men’s Chorus, the Temple Tifereth Israel, the Horns and Things Jazz Band, church choirs from St Agnes and St Raphael and John Adams, the famed Cleveland Indians Drummer! NCMC recorded their two tracks on Thursday evening for this exciting project!
“It is our belief that singing together creates a bond of closeness that no other activity can,” said Rebecca Brady, Community Leader. “The feeling of connection that comes from singing together with others goes hand in hand with our mission to help people with developmental disabilities share their gifts with others while building transforming community relationships.” CDs will be sold ($10) to help raise funds to support the residents of L’Arche Cleveland.
L’Arche Cleveland has four homes in which persons with developmental disabilities live and share their lives with assistants and volunteers. The L’Arche community will be the primary performers on the holiday CD project. All other collaborators will be local, as L’Arche wants to ensure the entire project reflects the gifts and talents of the Cleveland community.   The staff of L’Arche Cleveland asks anyone who is touched by the mission of the organization to please support this project by visiting the website to preorder their CD at larchecleveland.org and also share the project with others.
About L’Arche Cleveland
Founded in 1975, L’Arche Cleveland has four loving homes – one in Cleveland Heights, one in Maple Heights, and two in Cleveland near Shaker Square – in which “core members” (persons with developmental disabilities who are at the “core” of the community) live and share their lives with assistants and volunteers.

Rich Cole Honored by City of Cleveland

b640b72b-d378-4953-8ddd-eb8839f9c57b

NCMC is very proud that Rich Cole, our artistic director, was honored by The City of Cleveland and local members of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community at the 7th Annual Heritage Day celebration. The event took place in the beautiful rotunda at Cleveland City Hall on Thursday, October 8, 2015. LGBTQA leaders contribute to the betterment of the LGBTQA community on a daily basis as ‘out’ members of the community. The list of winners this year were Bryan Jones (Community Advocacy), Rich Cole (Entertainment), Bob Bucklew (Health & Wellness), Tom Stebel (Public Service), Bob & Karen Gross (LGBT Ally), and Joe Cimperman (Elected Official). About forty-five NCMC members were able to attend the event to see Barbara Ragon, our executive director, present the award to Rich. NCMC member Marc Copfer started the evening out by singing the National Anthem. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients.

NCMC Launches New Website

After a year of preparation and months of work, the North Coast Men’s Chorus has launched an all new redesigned website at www.ncmchorus.org just in time for the holidays!  The new site features a modern design including many dynamic elements to help us keep you updated on the latest news and events for NCMC.

The NCMC staff has been working with our marketing and design partners Linear Creative to re-imagine what our web presence should be and implement this new vision.  In recent weeks we’ve set about the detailed work of writing copy, selecting photos, and setting up our new online store.  Now, as we make the final preparations for our holiday concert, NCMC Unwrapped, we are unwrapping the new site design for the whole world to see!

Please take a few minutes to explore the site and send us some comments.  We will be continuing to expand the information available in the coming weeks, adding news about upcoming NCMC events and articles and photo galleries from past events.  We hope that you enjoy the new site and come back often to find out what’s next for our talented men!
